DIN.AL. Disc Couplings, belonging to the "GEL" series, are commonly used for connecting tachogenerators, encoders, contactors, motors, measuring instruments and applications where a constant rotational speed in all four quadrants is required, together with absolute torsional rigidity, even when the connected shafts are not perfectly aligned.

Designed in accordance with DIN 740, these couplings can accommodate angular misalignment. Thanks to their innovative construction, such misalignment does not cause stress on the connected shafts.

Their special construction and selected materials allow them to operate at temperatures ranging from -30 °C to +200 °C.

Materials

The "GEL" series is manufactured from a lightweight, non-magnetic alloy treated with an anti-corrosion galvanic process. This material is used for the coupling bodies and hubs.

The connecting rings, a key component of the coupling, must ensure both torque transmission and system flexibility. For this reason, they are manufactured from a special bronze alloy. Special rivets secure the rings to the hubs and body. The shaft-locking pins are made from E-42 stainless steel, helping to prevent corrosion throughout the coupling.

Installation

The high precision of these couplings makes installation straightforward, even in difficult positions. The hubs are normally secured to the shafts of the machines being connected using two DIN 916 stainless steel set screws, positioned at 90° on each hub for the type identified by the letter G.

Another version, identified by the letter CG, is also available. This version uses a combination of a UNI 6604-69 key and a DIN 916 set screw. In the GEL S series, the hub is secured using a special patented self-locking system.

The hub bores are manufactured according to ISO H7 tolerance. For correct installation, it is recommended that the shafts to be connected are manufactured according to ISO j6 tolerance.

To make the best use of the couplings' elastic capacity, the alignment of the equipment shafts should be checked before installation, minimising angular and radial misalignment wherever possible.

After installation, check that no abnormal pressure is applied to the connecting rings due to excessive axial misalignment. The maximum angular, radial and axial misalignment values are specified in the technical characteristics table. It is important to note that these specified values cannot be applied simultaneously.
